Grant Hill to Deliver Keynote Address at 2024 MLK Commemoration

Olympian and NBA Hall of Famer Grant Hill to lead MLK Commemoration

Duke alumnus and trustee Grant Hill will be the keynote speaker for Duke’s Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration. A two-time men’s basketball national champion at Duke, Hill will speak in Duke Chapel on Sunday, January 14, at 4 p.m.

The theme of the service, which is free and open to the public, is Our Path to Progress: Realizing King’s Dream of True Freedom for All. Duke will livestream the event on its MLK Commemoration website. 

The commemoration is also part of Duke’s Centennial Celebration, marking 100 years since Trinity College became Duke University.

2024 MLK Day of Service Will Help Food Banks

The meal-packaging event is held annually on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The MLK, Jr. Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, will include a meal packaging event from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. organized by the Office of Durham and Community Affairs. Duke community volunteers will package 150,000+ meals to be distributed in Durham, Orange, Wake, and Johnston Counties through the Interfaith Food Shuttle.

Duke Health and BLACKtivate are thrilled to announce our upcoming MLK celebration. Our featured keynote speaker is Rev. Zina Jacque, Ph.D, Assistant Pastor for Small Groups at Alfred Street Baptist Church, located in Alexandria, VA.

January 18th from 11am-1pm in the Trent Semans Great Hall

A livestream presented by DiversifyIT will be available for those who would like to attend remotely.

Note: Due to unforeseen circumstances, Rev. Dr. Howard-John Wesley is unable to speak on January 18. He has rescheduled to come in February in honor of Black History Month. Details will be shared systemwide once confirmed.
