On May 13, 2016 the Duke Board of Trustees approved a committee to assist in identifying the next president. The committee will be chaired by Jack O. Bovender, Jr., vice chair of the Duke Board of Trustees.

Jack O. Bovender, Jr. is retired Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Nashville, Tenn.-based Hospital Corporation of America, the nation’s leading provider of healthcare services. HCA has 163 hospitals and 105 Ambulatory Surgery Centers in the United States and England.
Bovender is a 40-year veteran of the healthcare industry and worked at HCA for 31 years. He began his hospital administrative career in 1969 as a lieutenant in the United States Navy stationed at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Portsmouth, Va.
